A huge stretch of water situated less than a three-hour drive north of Gatineau-Ottawa and Montréal, the Baskatong Reservoir resulted from the construction of the Mercier Dam in 1927, and serves as a source of feedwater for hydro-electric generating stations located downstream along the Gatineau River. Its beauty and grandeur represent 2,800 km of shoreline, numerous fine-sand beaches and some 160 islands. The past few years have seen its reputation grow in terms of quality fine-sand beaches and wide variety of nautical activities.
