20The weather is warming up, and it’s time to get out there and have fun on the water! Did you know that the Outaouais has 197 accessible bodies of water for you and your family and friends to enjoy?

Here are my suggestions for the next few days:

Dare to go rafting

In the Outaouais, we’re lucky to have one of the top rafting destinations in the country: the Ottawa River. On Saturday, June 18, Rafting Momentum invites you to join the Grand défoulement fundraising event, where $15 of your admission fee will be donated to the Quebec Cancer Society. For more whitewater thrills, check out Horizon X Rafting and Bonnet Rouge Rafting. Make the excitement last with an overnight stay (some enterprises include free camping with your rafting expedition)!

Rent a canoe, kayak or pedal boat

Take the kids for a paddle/pedal in a canoe, single or double kayak, or pedal boat. At the Centre nautique de la Lièvre, the Centre de plein-air du Lac-Leamy, and the Centre de plein air du Lac-Beauchamp, you can rent boats at very reasonable rates (free for Accès Gatineau + cardholders). All three centres also offer free parking, beach access, and a children’s play area. Bring a picnic and make a day of it!

Try paddleboarding

Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), the latest summer sport craze, has officially arrived in the Outaouais! It’s easy to learn, and a great way to stay in shape on the water. Find out what it’s all about at Paddlefit Gatineau-Ottawa. Check their course calendar and sign up for a lesson or two. Another place to learn is the Pôle d’excellence en récréotourisme en Outaouais, which offers lessons at the beautiful Village récréotouristique Majopial resort on Thirty-One Mile Lake. You can also rent paddleboards at the Centre de plein air du Lac-Beauchamp and the Centre nautique de la Lièvre, but they don’t offer lessons.

As the saying goes, “Last one in is a rotten egg!”
