We really haven’t been lucky with the weather lately! This winter, Mother Nature seems to prefer rain to snow. Winter lovers, start gearing down, because your favourite season is nearly over. That’s why this week I’m suggesting three winter activities followed by a tasty snack. What better way to say farewell to winter?

Downhill skiing and onion soup

The next few days will be ideal for spring skiing. Camp Fortune is the only ski centre in the region located inside Gatineau Park. As a skier, my favourite #outaouaisfun après-ski spot is the Chelsea Pub for a bunch of reasons, but mostly because of their irresistible onion soup generously garnished with cheese from the Fromagerie Montebello.

Cross-country skiing and pastries

As everybody knows, Gatineau Park is a cross-country skier’s paradise, with 50 trails and 14 access points. The snow is melting fast, but conditions in the park are still great. Before or after your outing, I invite you to stop in at Biscotti & cie and treat yourself to one of their delicious pastries, soups or gourmet sandwiches. After all, you deserve it! If you’d like to extend your visit, consider spending a night at the Wakefield Mill. Did you know that you can access the ski trails directly from the inn?

Snowshoeing and gourmet sugar shack

Last week I sampled the delectable gourmet sugar shack brunch at Le Rituel restaurant at Le Sorcier Golf Club, and I can tell you it was worth the trip! The menu includes a Le Rituel-style breakfast sandwich, mixed charcuterie plate, scrambled eggs with green onions and smoked bacon served with maple fruit chutney (they were so good we ordered seconds), maple floss, citrus and vanilla perfumed pancakes (we fought over the last bite), and more. Definitely a must-try before maple syrup season ends! After such a filling meal, you’ll want a little exercise. You’re in luck: Domaine des 3 Roses is right next door, and its groomed snowshoe trails await you!
