Who doesn’t love food? I may not be the female version of Ricardo (though I love trying out his recipes), but I do enjoy sampling tasty local fare. So when an event like the Rendez-vous des saveurs Casino du Lac-Leamy comes along, you can bet I’m one of the first in line.

From October 16 to 18, besides showcasing the talents of some 50 chefs from the region’s finest restaurants, wine agents and local food producers and processors, the event offers a program of activities for everyone from epicures to humble foodies like me who appreciate good, home-made comfort food.

Tips and tricks from a top chef

How would you like to cook like a professional chef—or at least learn some of his best tips and tricks? You’ve come to the right place! On Saturday and Sunday afternoon, attend cooking demonstrations by 2015 Rendez-vous ambassador Francis Pouliot, grand prize winner of the popular Radio-Canada cooking show “Les Chefs! La brigade.” The sessions are free, tasty and educational—and who knows? You might even discover a way to get your kids to eat their vegetables!

Tasting workshops

Sink your teeth into a satisfying culinary experience at the many tasting workshops hosted by local restaurant personalities. And believe me, there’s something for every palate! Champagne and oyster pairing with Romain Riva, owner and chef at Les Vilains Pêcheurs; beer and cheese tasting with Martine Boily of Bistro L’Autre Œil (known for its selection of more than 600 beers); cocktails through the ages with François Paradis, and much more.

Apprentice chefs? Why not?

The main event is reserved for adults, but the organizers have lined up a Mini-Academy of activities for children and teens. Appetizer: Sampling of a selection of international dishes. Main course: Cooking workshops where the young participants will create tasty snacks to take home. Dessert: Pumpkin decorating. It’s a menu designed to amuse and entertain your apprentice chefs while you explore the Rendez-vous des saveurs!

See you there!
