Shopping Spree in Outaouais
It's getting nice outside and it’s time to start the usual spring clean-up, but personally, this time of year means procrastinating the window cleaning and go shopping! Whoo hoo! The shopaholic in me is on cloud nine! Let’s just say it was about time that she woke up from hibernation after the long winter we just had.
So ladies, here are the region’s must-go places to add key pieces to your spring wardrobe… or maybe have a complete makeover!
Les Promenades Gatineau began a major modernization project, and although they are only at the early stages of it, it is worth the trip. With nearly 800,000 square feet and 115 stores, the chances of getting out of there empty-handed are slim. Moreover, two fashion giants have recently entered to make the Promenades their home: Forever 21 and H&M. And this summer, they will be joined by Tristan and Simons (which will occupy no less than 80,000 square feet). So what do you of the new look from Les Promenades Gatineau? Pretty neat, isn’t it?
Les Galeries de Hull are the second largest shopping mall in the region. Located on one of the busiest arteries in the Outaouais region, and near the Casino du Lac Leamy, it contains 80 fashion stores spread across 300,000 square feet. Your bags are getting heavy? Rest on one of the comfortable sofas in the lounge areas. While you’re at it, share your purchases on social networks thanks to their free wi- fi service!
Bonus: these two shopping centres are focused on preserving the environment, which is why they have implemented many initiatives to promote sustainable development.
On the other side of the river
Just minutes from Gatineau, or should I say, the time to cross the bridge, another world of shopping awaits you. You know what this means? Even more options!
The Rideau Centre is also revamping, with a facelift of $360 million that is scheduled to be completed in 2016. An undeniable place for shopping, it boasts 160 stores on more than one million square feet, of which nearly half are fashion and accessories boutiques for women. And you, dear fashionistas, you've probably heard of the arrival of the US giant Nordstrom, a 157,000 square feet store offering high-end brands such as Jimmy Choo, Dior and Chanel.
I am also fond of the Byward Market, one of the oldest and largest public markets in Canada. In an area of about four blocks away, you will find cafes, specialty food shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants, pubs and more. Enjoy a shopping spree followed by a glass of wine on a nearby terrace. Welcome to the good life! My fave fashion boutiques in the area: Victoire and Milk.
Charming boutiques to discover
There is nothing more fun than finding a piece of clothing, jewelry or accessory that is unique. And even though I am a fan of renowned brands, the personalized service offered in small boutiques as well as their charming atmosphere seduces me every time. And you? Here are a few pretty cool stops.
