It’s a fact: the Casino du Lac-Leamy has changed a lot in the last few years, and it’s definitely a change for the better. In the Outaouais, the Casino is part of a complex that offers a 360° entertainment experience: a wide variety of first-class shows, outstanding restaurants, lively bars and nightclubs, crowd-pleasing DJs, lounge spaces where you can relax over a drink with friends, and a constantly evolving selection of games. If you haven’t been to the Casino in awhile, I can tell you it’s worth the trip!

I was there with friends last Saturday night, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., and we had a great time. That’s what the Casino is all about in #Outaouaisfun: a single destination for a fantastic evening, from dinner to the dance floor that you can’t bear to leave because “they’re playing my song!”

Win a BMW

From now to June 3, when you visit the Casino, you could drive home in a BMW! Every Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m., 10 lucky patrons will win a spot to play a live game. Participants take turns choosing a capsule containing a key that opens one of 10 boxes. The good news is that every box contains a prize, ranging from $250 to a BMW 320i xDrive worth $40,000! Once a participant has claimed their prize, Casino staff pick up all 10 capsules, mix them up and put them back into play. In other words, every Thursday night, if all 10 participants choose the right capsule, all 10 could win a BMW.

I gave it a try during my visit. OK, OK, it was only a simulation, but even so, it was pretty stressful trying the boxes one by one. My key wouldn’t open the $250 box, so I tried the next one, and the next … If we’d been playing for real, my friend Danika would have won $5,000. When my turn came, I was so excited I rushed through the first few boxes. Finally I got to the BMW box … and it wouldn’t open. The Casino employee told me to start over and go more slowly, and lo and behold, my key opened the $250 box. What a crushing disappointment! If you’re not at the Casino on a Thursday, there are other ways to win: read all about it here.

Before going up to the restaurant for dinner, I got behind the wheel of the prize BMW. I look pretty good back there, don’t you think?

An encounter with Jonathan Duhamel

After dinner, we met the real live Jonathan Duhamel, winner of the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event Championship, at the free poker demo tables set up in the Casino lobby every Friday and Saturday night (7 p.m. to 1 a.m.) until June 11. Depending on the date of your visit, you’ll learn one of five different kinds of poker. The night we were there it was High Card Flush, which I confess I’d never heard of. After 20 instructive minutes at the demo table, we tried our luck at the regular poker tables. Let’s just say I wouldn’t call myself a poker ace just yet!

On Wednesdays, there are mini poker tournaments at a mini price. Jonathan will be there on June 1 from 7 to 11 p.m. Take it from me, he’s a great guy, and very funny!

Entertainment for your palate

Our evening wouldn’t have been complete without taking a break at one of the complex’s restaurants. We chose the Banco Bistro, which offers a varied menu at reasonable prices. A nice glass of white wine, a shared appetizer, a delicious main course (surf and turf for me, yummy)—the perfect recipe for a successful evening. Did you know that from Friday to Sunday the restaurant serves a buffet for just $27 per person? Talk about great value for money!

Pssst: I recently discovered the brunch buffet at Arôme, also in the Casino complex. Read my blog post about it here. One word: Amazing.

Music to dance, dance, dance the night away

When 9:30 rolled around we headed for Bar 7, one of my favourite spots in the region to enjoy good music, a party atmosphere and chatting with friends. The featured band that night was Hit List—and the hits kept on coming! On Wednesdays and Thursdays in June, from 7:30 p.m. on, dance to the beat of DJ Pat Frazer. Fridays and Saturdays are live music nights: Bond Girls (June 3 & 4), Lost in Sound (June 10 & 11), Shine (June 17 & 18) and Rewind (June 23 & 24).

Around midnight we went up to Club Aléa, located just above Bar 7. The guest DJ that night was Miss Shelton. Needless to say, we danced until our high heels told us it was time to call it a night! Don’t miss the upcoming guest DJs: DJ LR (May 27), Étienne Ozborne (May 28 & June 5), Kleancut (June 3), Pag & Mylo (June 4), Bonanza (June 10), DJ Kingdom (June 11), DJ Zoo (June 17), Domeno (June 18) and Crowd (June 24).

To think that we packed all this into just one evening! As you can see, the Casino offers myriad entertainment options, and every one’s a winner.
