August 22 to 28: 3 sure signs that summer isn’t over!
Your vacation may be a distant memory, the back-to-school backpacks may be ready to go, and September may be just around the corner, BUT in #Outaouaisfun, summer is far from over. And here are three sure signs:
Upper Gatineau Whitewater Festival
The forecast for next weekend is hot and sunny, which is great, because August 26–28 is the weekend of the Upper Gatineau Whitewater Festival. You can sign up for various canoeing, kayaking and rafting events, or watch the intrepid paddlers from the Savoyard covered bridge at Grand-Remous, Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. No charge for observers!
La Vieille Grange Country & Western Festival
From August 24–28, the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau will swing to a C&W beat as it welcomes the 8th annual Festival country western de la Vieille Grange. The program includes equestrian competitions, horse pulls, and performances by Boom Desjardins with guest artist Véronique Gibert (of La Voix reality talent show), Guylaine Tanguay, and Irvin Blais in a special 3‑hour concert.
Outaouais Gourmet Festival
On August 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hendrick Farm in Chelsea, stock up on fresh local products at the first annual Outaouais Gourmet Festival! More than 30 producers and vendors from around the region will be there, and Jean-Claude Chartrand, chef at l’Orée du Bois restaurant, will present culinary workshops. There will be face painting and inflatable structures for the kids. Admission to the festival is free, but there is a charge for tastings.
