August 3 to 9: Light Shows in the Outaouais Region

August 3 2015

This week, prepare to be dazzled by the region’s impressive urban and rural light shows!

Fireworks at the Canadian Museum of History

The Casino Lac-Leamy Sound of Light show is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Twenty years of impressive pyrotechnic prowess lighting up the Gatineau starry sky! From August 8 to 22, at the Canadian Museum of History, Spain, Belgium, Greece and Venezuela will deploy all their talent to win the famous Zeus price. From 6 pm, the site will come alive thanks to a new family area, street art, street performers and musical entertainment (which will continue after the fireworks as well).

This spectacular annual event gets underway on Saturday with The Art of Fire, a pyromusical display from Spain. In this expressive show, dazzling fireworks dance to the music of Sting, Hans Zimmer, Mike Oldfield, Elvis Costello and Evanescence.

Spotlight on starlight at Plaisance National Park

The starry sky is one of nature’s most spectacular sights. Nowadays, though, because of light pollution the stars can be hard to make out. Luckily, our national parks are ideal places to get away from the bright lights and admire the night sky in all its glory.

Until September 5, Plaisance National Park is offering free stargazing sessions, fair weather or foul. On Saturdays at dusk, you and your family can observe the constellations overhead in real time, and take a virtual look at a few that are light years away. Your budding astronomers will be starry-eyed as they learn to use a star finder and participate in other educational activities

Northern Lights sound and light show on Parliament Hill

Every night at 9:30 (weather permitting), take a thrilling thematic journey through Canada’s history. This all-new experience of sound and light combines bold digital technology with the architectural splendour of the Parliament Buildings. Laser, interactive device, lighting, sound and advanced digital technology: the most sophisticated tools have been deployed to make Northern Lights an inspiring artistic creation.
