People’s Choice: Top 10 bars in the Outaouais

Published on December 15 2017

Once again, dear readers, you have risen to the challenge! We asked you to tell us about your favourite Outaouais watering holes, and your answers clearly show that our region has something for everyone, whether you prefer beer, wine or cocktails.

So here are the Top 10 as chosen by YOU!

10. Soif – bar à vin

Ever since sommelière Véronique Rivest hung out her shingle in downtown Gatineau, oenophiles (from novices to experts) have flocked to her establishment to discover and enjoy an outstanding wine list, delectable cocktails, a fabulous menu and a beautiful outdoor terrace.

Cheers to some boss-ass babes who are as fine as this wine 🍷 #soifbaravin #bossbabe #earnscliffeladies #friyay

9. Gainsbourg

Gainsbourg, on Place Aubry, has quickly become a favourite among the region’s beer drinkers. The house-brewed craft beers are equally enjoyable with a meal or on their own on a nice sunny day.

8. Brasserie du Bas-Canada

It didn’t take long for this newcomer to attract attention! Bold house-brewed beers with inventive names, coupled with a menu crafted by Les Vilains Garçons—what’s not to love?

7. Le Troquet

This Old Hull standby is a top spot for a drink and/or a meal with friends. Le Troquet also offers a great lineup of live entertainment, and two terraces, one overlooking Laval Street and one at the back under the shade trees.

6. Aux 4 jeudis

This list wouldn’t be complete without the legendary “4,” a veritable downtown institution for nearly 40 years. Recently renovated and updated, with a good range of beer and drinks, a beautiful big terrace, and a bistro menu in summer, it’s ideal for happy hour or a lively evening out.

5. Les Brasseurs du Temps

Les BDT brewpub offers a wide selection of house-brewed craft beers, a tasty pub-style menu, and a FA-BU-LOUS terrace, all in a heritage setting (ah, if those walls could talk!) on Brewery Creek. Having trouble deciding what to order? Try the famous “Round the Clock”12-beer sampler.

4. Bistro L’Autre Œil

Check out their new location at 152 Principale Street in Aylmer—it’s gorgeous! With some 500 beers on the menu, L’Autre Œil is the place to discover beers from around the world. Admittedly, choosing among 500 beers can be intimidating. That’s where the very knowledgeable bistro staff will be happy to help!

3. Où Quoi Salon Urbain

The Où Quoi has undergone some major changes in the past year, but it’s still the same relaxed, friendly place where you can sample original cocktails (hello, BeaverTail!) and even bring your own lunch to eat in the restaurant!

2. Chelsea Pub

Think of this local institution on the edge of Gatineau Park as an oversize after-ski or after-bike chalet! Things we love: its rustic charm, comfort-food menu, beer selection, and big, warm blankets for sitting out on the terrace even in cool weather.

1. Le Quai St-Raymond

A great spot to grab a drink with friends and share a delicious meal in a “portside” setting. It’s big, it’s beautiful, it’s tasty, and every Tuesday is all-you-can-eat mussels and fries! They’ve even concocted a special sangria to help you forget that winter is just around the corner!
