Published on July 13 2016

Summer vacation is officially here! You may already have made your plans, but choosing a restaurant is often a last-minute decision, if not a daunting challenge. It’s not easy to find a place everyone will like, where the prices won’t break your vacation budget.

Here’s a list of 10 #Outaouaisfun restaurants with kid-friendly menus and ambiance, and parent-friendly prices!

Buffet des Continents: Free for children 12 and under, except on Saturdays, when kids eat for about half price. Children 4 and under always eat for free. Throughout the year, they offer different fun themes for families to enjoy!

Boston Pizza: Reasonably priced children’s menu, special drinks and fun desserts. Every kids’ meal comes with a free BP Kids Fun Pack.

Biscotti & cie: Your kids will love the sweet home-made treats at this charming coffee shop—almost as much as they’ll love the mini-Biscotti playhouse in the garden.

East Side Mario’s: There’s a special “Mini Marios” menu for the younger set, and all meals include all-you-can-eat soup, salad and garlic bread. Kids who finish their main course get a free dessert! Beginning in September, there will be free entertainment (face painting and a clown) every Sunday from 4:30 p.m.

Les rôtisseries St-Hubert: This family restaurant chain is a Quebec classic. The children’s menu (under $8) includes coleslaw, a drink and dessert. The Gatineau and Hull locations have a playroom.

Au Vieux Duluth: The children’s menu includes free ice cream. For a limited time, 7 days a week, the chicken strips with honey sauce and fries are free for kids under 12.

Casa Grecque: The $8 children’s menu includes a drink and ice cream. Kids eat free on Sundays.

Ottavio: Their kids' menu is very original: children get to tick off what they want to order, and the menu/placemat is also a puzzle and colouring sheet. Gluten-free pasta and pizza are available, and kids eat free on Sundays.

Barbie's Restaurant: Kids’ meals ($7–$9) include a drink and ice cream.

Fairmont Le Château Montebello: At all Fairmont hotels, kids 5 and under eat free off the children’s menu, while kids ages 6–11 eat for half price off the regular menu. The Fairmont Le Château Montebello also offers an in-room babysitting service, so you can bring the wee ones and still enjoy a romantic dinner for two at the hotel’s Aux Chantignoles restaurant!

Last but not least, everyone knows that animals are a big draw for kids. Drop in and meet the kitties at the Siberian Cat Café, where kids are welcome on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Note: Restaurant policies regarding free meals and age restrictions vary from one establishment to another. For specific information, please contact your chosen restaurant.
