What's on the Outaouais June 7-13
We’re celebrating Springtime in the region, and in so many ways! Come enjoy an ice cold beer in the sun, meet a few artists, ride your bike or wave at the elk.
ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
Enjoy some liquid friendship!
An Outaouais summer tradition, the Gatineau Beerfest has once again lined up a varied and entertaining program featuring workshops (including sessions on pairing beer with tartares, whisky, and even cupcakes!), live shows, activities for all ages, and, of course, more than 300 craft beers. Note that this year, because of high Ottawa River levels near the Canadian Museum of History, the Beerfest will be held at Festival Plaza on the Zibi site.
Zibi - Festival Plaza
Up to $25 per day. Includes entry fee, an Ecocup glass and admission to live shows.
Discover the art and artists of the Pontiac
Held over two consecutive weekends, the Pontiac Artists’ Studio Tour is a unique opportunity for visitors and artists to meet. Admire original works in a variety of media, including woodworking, sculpture, printmaking and hand-painted silk, and chat with the creators.
June 8 & 9 and June 15 & 16
This year, besides meeting the artists, you can enjoy wine and beer (June 8 only) at two stops along the tour route.
Biking, biking and more biking!
Here are three options for celebrating the bicycle, that wonderful form of eco-friendly transportation. Since the May long weekend, Sunday mornings have been reserved for bike riding (and roller blading) on some beautiful local parkways. Nokia Sunday Bikedays are back, and they run until September! Another suggestion: a short spin along the Gatineau bike paths. Why not ride to Aylmer at sunset and stop for refreshments on Principale Street …? And if your leg muscles are complaining, get off your bike, find a spot in the crowd and cheer on the Lycra-clad athletes participating in the Grand Prix cycliste, June 6‑9 in Gatineau.
Spend a day at Parc Oméga!
This is the time of year when you can see unbelievably adorable baby animals. Squeeee! 😍 If they’re sleeping or hiding in the peaceful woods when you arrive, no worries: you can visit the Old Farm, where you’ll find lots of cute animals. Plan to spend the day: hike the First Nations Trail, have lunch in one of the picnic areas, and enjoy the wolf presentation and the birds of prey show. Now that’s a great family outing!
Shoulder season: Adults $28.70 (ages 16 to 64)
To get the $10 family discount, please buy your tickets at the park office (i.e., not on line).
A weekend in Gatineau Park
S’mores season is officially open! Plan a weekend getaway to beautiful Gatineau Park. Go for a day hike, then return to the campground for an evening campfire (and s’mores, of course). Book now for the best choice of dates and campsites!
Campsite fee $36
