Thanksgiving weekend in the Outaouais promises to be colourful! Whether you’re a fan of outdoor hiking, mountain running, cultural outings or agricultural discoveries, there are lots of reasons to get out there this week and enjoy the fall colours and the simple pleasures of the season.

Summit Challenge
Looking for a local, family-friendly sport event? The Summit Challenge (Défi du sommet) mountain trail race is ideal, with 1K, 2K, 5K and 10K courses open for registration. And the fun doesn’t stop there: the race is part of the Cascades Colourfest fall festival, with family activities, an Oktoberfest BBQ, music, children’s games, and sports equipment sales.

If you participate in the Cascades Colourfest or the Summit Challenge, you can get preferred rates on season passes, and register on the spot for various programs at the Mont Cascades Snow School (subject to availability).
Mont Ste-Marie Festival of Colours
Just under an hour’s drive from downtown Gatineau, Mont Ste-Marie will be showing off its finest colours to entice you outdoors this weekend! Admire the fall colours from the trails, from the chairlifts, or from high in the air (helicopter tours available for $50). Children’s games, music and exhibitors’ booths await you.

Bal des citrouilles de Ripon
This weekend, get together with family and friends and enjoy a lively, colourful and original festival in the heart of Ripon: the Bal des citrouilles (Pumpkin Ball)! The festival takes place at two different sites, and the program includes a pumpkin decorating workshop for kids, inflatable games, pony rides, a mini-farm, musical performances, and lots more.

To get from one festival site to the other, hop aboard the horse-drawn shuttle ($2 per person, free for children under 7).
NCC Fall Rhapsody
Gatineau Park is in full autumn mode, and to go along with the spectacular colours, this week the National Capital Commission is offering two great activities. The Anishinabe Nibin (Algonquin Summer) event will immerse you in the lifestyle and culture of the Algonquin Nation, and at the Pontiac Country Fair you can meet local craftspeople and watch equestrian demonstrations in a truly enchanting setting.

Thanksgiving Weekend at the Farm
On this weekend celebrating abundance and harvest, take a few hours to introduce your toddlers to a host of topics at the Agriculture and Food Museum. From learning about a pumpkin’s life cycle to making an apple dessert and meeting a farrier, the various activities are sure to give your children some great project ideas!

There will be demonstrations with farm animals (cows and calves, rabbits and ducks) throughout the weekend. You’ll be given a handout at the entrance listing the demonstration times.
