August 31 to September 7: 4 things to not miss out during the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival

Published on August 31 2015

The Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival promises an amazing 28th edition! With no fewer than 13 special shapes, in addition to dozens of regularly shaped balloons, it goes without saying that the lift-offs ahead will be spectacular. Aside from the lift-offs in the early evening and the shows at night, here are four activities to miss out from September 3 to 7.

Morning Lift-offs

Personally, this is my favourite part of the Festival because it’s simply magical! Dew on the ground, hot chocolate in hand, the rising sun, it’s the perfect setting to admire the lift-off of more than fifty balloons to the sound of the saxophone quartet: Sax Appeal.

Family Stage

In addition to the Repti-Zone and the giant structures of soccer table, your little ones will have the opportunity to groove with their favorite stars who will fire-up the Family Stage. New this year: the stage is transformed and is now under a tent to protect the crowd from the sun. On the menu: Les Petites Tounes, Les Argonautes, Annie Brocoli (who will be taking pictures and signing autographs), and much more. A baby or a toddler in the family? Don’t panic! There’s an area for infant care will allow you to change diapers, breastfeed, and even warm milk.

Night Glow

This year, you’ll have the chance to see the balloons being illuminated, not once, but twice. And believe me, it's a real show in itself! On Friday, the light show will be devoted to the special shaped balloons, while on Sunday, you will be amazed by synchronized choreography on the Beatles classics, including more than two dozen hot air balloons. It’s definitely a must-see!

Graffiti Contest

Regional artists will demonstrate their talent in three graffiti contests that will take place on the Festival site. First, they will display their art on huge panels and the top ten creations, selected by a jury of STO, will be exhibited in the Rapibus the corridors. Then a competition between multiple graffitists will be judged by Gatineau city’s representative and professional graffiti artists. And finally, two teams will compete for the public’s vote, where you will be prompted to select your favorite piece via Facebook as of September 7.
