6 bars in downtown Gatineau well worth a visit
Whether you’re up for happy hour, a beer with the guys, girls’ night out, or a leisurely afternoon on an outdoor terrace, downtown Gatineau has a great variety of bars where you can relax with a drink—and they’re all just a few metres apart!
Feel for A COCKTAIL ? Go downtown gatineau!
Those who know me know I’m always up for a drink on a terrace! Especially because I deeply love downtown Gatineau, affectionately nicknamed Old Hull.
This historic neighbourhood is not only attractive, dynamic, different and lively: it’s also welcoming and friendly. I love it for its many attractions, but also because you’ll always find the perfect spot to match your desire of the moment!
Do you crave a craft beer or a fancy cocktail? Do you want to party, or just relax on a beautiful terrace? Do you want to dance and sing along with talented local music artists? Or do you want to watch a live broadcast of your favourite sports team? Whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it in downtown Gatineau.
6 outdoor patios in downtown Gatineau to try this summer!
41 Laval Street, Gatineau
Do you want to kick back in the ambiance of a neighbourhood bistro, a cozy café or a casual bar? Le Troquet combines the best of all three! Besides a fine selection of delicious and affordable dishes, roasted coffees, and cocktails, beers and wines, the restaurant is home to a lively art scene!
The charming terrace in the back yard is also worth a visit. Formerly adorned with multicolored umbrellas, it’s now decorated with suspended bicycles. The effect is appealing and intimate—perfect for date night!
My top pick: The mojitos garnished with mint from Le Troquet’s own garden … Yum! And of course, the terrace in the back yard.
Aux 4 jeudis
44 Laval Street, Gatineau
For 40 years now, Aux 4 jeudis has played an important role on the local cultural scene. Exhibition space, live shows on the beautiful terrace, film nights on a giant outdoor screen, top spot for happy hour, seasonal cuisine … these are just a few of the factors that make this place a favourite watering hole for any occasion!
Are you longing to enjoy a drink on a sunny terrace, but don’t dare because you are alone? Cast your doubts aside and drop by Aux 4 jeudis, where the atmosphere is festive and friendly … and very conducive to new encounters.
My top pick: A show on the terrace, a beer in hand. Amen!
Le Pêle Mêle
47 Laval Street, Gatineau
The Pêle Mêle restaurant and sports bar is THE place par excellence to meet and watch sports events! Settled in with a beer and a basket of chicken wings at your elbow, you’re all set for today’s match. Hockey, baseball, basketball, football, boxing… Anything goes.
Stay after the game as a DJ settles in and the bar fills up for a lively evening. Stick around and join the party!
My top pick: No doubt about it: the pichet vert (white and red Sangria), best enjoyed while sitting comfortably, watching a game!
Ou Quoi – Salon Urbain
48 Laval Street, Gatineau
The friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the cocktail menu and the quality beer menu make Ou Quoi one of my favourite destinations for discovering creative and delicious drinks.
Besides being the first bar in downtown Gatineau to attempt to meet the Zero Waste challenge (by ending the year without throwing out any waste), it invites you to bring your lunch and complement it with a beer or a cocktail!
And if you’re at a loose end on a Sunday evening, the Ou Quoi welcomes you to Game Sundays for board and card games.
My top pick: The Beaver Tail. You absolutely have to try this shooter.
3 Kent Street, Gatineau
Minotaure is a relatively new addition to downtown Gatineau, but it has already become an important part of the local cultural scene. The terrace is beautiful, the drinks are good, the selection of Quebec microbrewery beers is outstanding, the theme nights and live shows are crazy fun, but best of all … they have arcade games!!!
My top pick: Definitely the amazing programming! Besides the Öpenmic comedy nights and great live shows, I really like the theme nights. Seriously, what could be better than a Celine Dion-themed evening?
9 Aubry Street, Gatineau
If you’re a microbrewery beer lover like me, a visit to Gainsbourg is a must! Order a house beer accompanied by a burger or mussels and fries, and ask for a table on the upstairs terrace.
While you’re there, be sure to try their “Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy,” which won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup in Nashville last April.
Psst! They even deliver to Île-de-Hull and the surrounding area!
My top pick: The upstairs terrace is gorgeous!
