Celebrating Canada as a family in the Outaouais
What a great way to start the summer: two long weekends in a row! On Canada Day, you’re invited to join the celebrations in the National Capital Region. Here are a few suggestions for festive family activities in the Outaouais:
Daytime fun
Cool off at Mont Cascades Mountain Waterpark
Keep your eye on the sky at the Wings Over Gatineau airshow (June 30)
Marvel at the creativity on display at the Wonders of Sand festival (July 1 to 3)
Canada Day celebrations
The Canadian Museum of History is the place to go for family fun: inflatable games, face painting, crafts, giant puppets, Ryu’s Big Circus, and performances by Atchoum and by Capitaine Hisse and Moussaillon Ho.
On Parliament Hill, watch the changing of the guard (9 a.m.), join the crowd at the noon show (12 p.m.) and evening show (7:30 p.m.) featuring Cœur de Pirate, Alex Nevsky, and more, and stay for the pyromusical fireworks (10 p.m.).
Where to sleep
Here are 3 hotels within walking distance of the festivities!
Four Points by Sheraton Gatineau-Ottawa
Crowne Plaza Gatineau-Ottawa
Best Western Plus Gatineau-Ottawa
What to eat
A famous BeaverTail pastry, of course!
