A western adventure at the Casino!
With the many western festivals taking place in the Outaouais, the country craze is everywhere, even at the Casino du Lac-Leamy! As a proud rural resident, I’ve attended many events where horses rub shoulders with cars and where the jeans/cowboy boots combo is part of the dress code; but the It’s Country experience at the Casino was new to me. After discovering it, I can confirm that the inspired atmosphere of the Casino’s western universe is right up there with a real country festival!
It’s a fact: country music is a big part of the western atmosphere, and, let’s face it, it’s really easy to get carried away by the rhythm of these odes to mountains and horses. At the Casino’s Bar 7, the country classics flow thick and fast: Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy; Cotton Eye Joe … not to mention top hits by our national icon, Shania Twain! This is the perfect time to show off your line dancing moves and admire dance performances by cowboys and cowgirls who take country dancing to a hot new level.
Cowboys in action!
When it comes to activities, you can be sure there’s something for everyone! For thrill seekers, there’s mechanical bull roulette. The challenge is simple: stay on the mechanical bull as long as you can. After having tapped out my reserves of grace on the first step, namely, climbing onto the aforementioned mechanical bull, I’m ready for the next phase. Fearing (almost) nothing, I decide to tackle the mechanical bull in style: left hand clamping my cowboy hat to my head, and right hand tightly gripping the loop connected to the beast. I hear the host give the starting signal. Just as I’m telling myself that my image may suffer by the end of this activity, I land on the inflatable platform. My time: 4 seconds, ladies and gentlemen. When you think that real cowboys have to stay on for 8 seconds (on live bulls, but that’s beside the point), that’s pretty good!
If you’re a fan of games of skill, you’ll enjoy “Naughty Bull Horns”! Three successful tosses out of five will win you a prize. But beware: a smart cowboy would tell you that concentration is paramount, because the items tossed can be … unusual! Strategic thinkers may prefer the free poker demonstrations, where you’ll learn the basics of this legendary game. Ladies, you’re invited to a very special introduction to poker on Thursdays, which are also Ladies’ Night. I’ll give you a hint: the cowboy invited to your table may well leave without his hat.
A very special poker initiation!
A suggestion for my female readers: On Ladies’ Night, Thursdays from 4 to 11 p.m., Bar 7 has an enticing offer for groups of four cowgirls: four appetizers and four glasses of wine for $50. Saddle up!
Four appetizers and four glasses of wine? We like that!
After an adventure-filled evening, I leave the Casino à la Lucky Luke, straw in mouth and cowboy hat on head, scanning the parking lot for a sign of Jolly Jumper the horse.
