December 19 to 26: 3 good reasons to get outside during the holiday
Traditionally, holiday time is family time. In the Outaouais, board games have been more popular than outdoor activities for the last couple of years, because we had green Christmases. But not this year! It’s an ideal time for you and your family to enjoy time together in the great outdoors. And because holiday classics are always a hit, here are three combos that will make you want to get out there and have some winter fun.
Downhill skiing and onion soup
One of the great things about downhill skiing is that you can do it day or night. Another great thing is après-ski! How about taking time over the holidays to introduce your teens to this post-workout pause? They’ll think you’re “way cool”! One of the best combos in the region is skiing at Camp Fortune followed by a restorative beer, poutine or onion soup at the Chelsea Pub!
Cross-country skiing and grilled sausages
Gatineau Park enjoys a well-deserved reputation as one of the Outaouais’ top cross-country skiing destinations. But in your free time over the holidays, why not explore some of the other trails in the area? The Municipality of Blue Sea maintains 13 km of beginner and intermediate trails. It’s a lovely spot for a day trip. Bring along some sausages to grill over the fire in the log shelter!
Snowshoeing and hot chocolate
Did you know that there are 60 km of snowshoe trails in Gatineau Park? Two of the easy trails leave from the Visitors’ Centre in Chelsea. They’re ideal for families, because the washrooms are never far away … Once you’ve taken off your snowshoes, hop across Scott Road to Biscotti & cie for some hot chocolate and decadent desserts!
