July 6 to 12: 3 beautiful beaches for summer fun

Published on July 6 2015

Beat the summer heat in Outaouais at one of the region’s many public beaches, where you and your family and friends can enjoy a ton of activities and build lasting vacation memories! There’s nothing like having fun in the sun, cooling off with a dip in the water, and feeling the sand between your toes. That’s why this week, we are highlighting three beaches offering outdoor activities for all!

Lac-Simon Tourist Centre

Escape to the heart of the Outaouais region! Nestled amid lakes and woods, the Lac-Simon Tourist Centre is a year-round vacation resort. In summer, discover the 2-km beach, clear waters and fine warm sand ... a real taste of the south! Enjoy your favourite water sports on the huge lake. The nearby 4 km2 forest is perfect for walking and cycling. We’ve added some new attractions for children, including a trampoline, climbing games, five slides and more! After an active day outdoors, the kids are sure to sleep soundly on the return trip.

Des Cèdres Park

Home to the Aylmer Marina, this beautiful park with its city beach offers some of the region’s most spectacular sunset views. The park comes alive in summer, with a variety of free outdoor events, active families enjoying the beachfront bike trails, people out on the water in a variety of rented craft (pedal boats, sailboats, canoes, etc.), and city lovers exploring the boutiques and cafés on nearby Principale Street. Amenities include a snack bar, a dressing room and showers; there’s a lifeguard on duty at the swimming beach, and kids will enjoy the play structures in the special children’s park.

Lac Philippe

Located in picturesque Gatineau Park, Lac Philippe has not one, not two, but three swimming beaches! Breton and Parent beaches are open to the public, and Smith Beach is reserved for campers staying at Lac Philippe. There’s lots more to do in the area: free guided tours of Lusk Cave, hiking, cycling on the Gatineau Park trail network, canoeing, kayaking, pedal boating, and more. To make things even easier, boat and bike rentals (helmet included) are available on site.

Outdoor lovers, this summer, push your limits in our region with the Outaouais Challenges. You may win one of the 5 awesome prizes! And follow us on TwitterFacebook and Instagram … remember our hashtag, #outaouaisfun.
