Latest news from the Cas-Yeee-Haaaaa du Lac-Leamy!

Published on September 20 2016

Until October 21, the Casino du Lac-Leamy is rocking to a C&W sound! It’s one way to keep the upbeat summer mood of the last few weeks going, with a host of entertainment options for the young and the young at heart. As we all know, country is all the rage these days! So get out your checked shirt, cowboy boots and ten-gallon hat and hit the road for the Casino du Lac-Leamy!

Every Thursday and Friday, the Casino offers free country-themed activities, and you can enjoy special cocktails and Western-themed cuisine in the complex’s bars and restaurants.

Mechanical bull roulette

Here’s one of the great new activities I tried this week: mechanical bull roulette. The concept is straightforward: you climb onto a mechanical bull at the centre of a giant roulette wheel, grab onto the handle with one hand, and try to stay in the saddle as long as possible. A couple of factors add to the challenge: the saddle is really slippery, and the handle moves around as well! When you fall off, you win the prize associated with the number on which you land. Everyone’s a winner!

The night I took on the challenge, only one person managed to stay in the saddle more than 40 seconds. Another interesting fact: the contraption is set up in the middle of the gaming area, in full view of everyone on the floor. So watch your facial expressions! Take it from me, it’s not easy!

Line dancing

Definitely the highlight of my evening. OK, it’s true, I love to dance and I enjoy line dancing, and I’m also pretty good at keeping the beat and learning dance steps. All in all it was a lot of fun.

Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30 p.m to 1 a.m. in the Bar 7, you can take free line dancing lessons from professional dancers. They’re excellent instructors, patient and cheerful, and afterwards you get to try out your new moves to different country songs.

The night I was there, we learned three dance sequences. I could have danced all night, but there comes a point when it’s just too darned hot!

Roulette in the spotlight

For the next few weeks, the Casino’s free demo tables will feature roulette. I love this concept, because no money is involved, so it’s a risk-free way to learn to play. You can be a player, or you can take on the dealer’s role! I can tell you it’s no easy task to get that little ball to spin for at least 4 revolutions of the wheel before it lands on a number.

Once you’ve mastered the rules of the game, you can go try your luck at the country hoedown in the Zone. This is one of my favourite areas at the Casino: playing live with game hosts in a party atmosphere is the best of both worlds. As well, the hosts draw 15 door prizes every night. Will you be one of the lucky winners?

If your roulette skills are solid, register for a roulette mini-tournament, every Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Country-themed cocktails and special restaurant menus

Before or after trying all these activities, visit one of the Casino’s restaurants to enjoy a cowboy feast worthy of the Far West. Try the Tomahawk beef rib eye, pork ribs marinated in maple syrup and Jack Daniel’s whiskey, or dry-aged beef.

Throughout the evening, quench your thirst with country-style cocktails: the Caesar BBQ, the Horse Kick and the Whisky Cola.

Live performances at the Théâtre du Casino

Last but not least, on November 11 and 12 the Théâtre du Casino presents Country Fever, featuring Guylaine Tanguay performing classics by Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Shania Twain, Renée Martel, Willy Lamothe, Patrick Norman and more.
