The Outaouais is made for spring break!
Spring break is coming up, and it’s always a great opportunity to spend time together as a family. Families in this region are especially lucky to have so many options right in their own back yard, less than two hours from Montreal—all the ingredients for a memorable getaway!
Here are some spring break activities that will delight parents and kids alike.
If there’s one thing kids love, it’s climbing all over the place like little monkeys. At Altitude Gym, you’ll find not just climbing walls but the Clip ‘N Climb activity park, where your kids (and you too—why not?) can have fun trying different challenges on a variety of colourful climbing structures. Visiting from outside the Outaouais? The Ramada Plaza Manoir du Casino is just a few minutes away, and has comfortable family-friendly suites.
Back to nature
The Centre touristique du Lac-Simon, part of Quebec’s SÉPAQ parks network, is located in the Petite-Nation La Lièvre sector. Introduce kids to cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, go tube sliding, skating or ice fishing, and watch the deer come right up to the deck of your little cottage. Speaking of wildlife, Parc Oméga is well worth a visit! Take along a bag of carrots (and some sausages for the carnivores) and you’ll make furry friends for life!
A howling good time!
A few minutes north of Montebello lies Kenauk Nature, a vast nature reserve where you and your family can rent a magnificent cottage. It’s a great spot to go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, but most important, you’re right next door to two dogsledding companies, Chiens de traîneau Petite-Nation and Meute Tanwen. Both offer dogsled rides that will put a smile on every face.
Underground and in the air
Arbraska Laflèche offers several activities in one place. You can go zip lining above a frozen lake, participate in a GPS rally on snowshoes, and, of course, explore the largest visited cave in the Canadian Shield. You could easily spend the whole day here! Not far away is Mont Cascades Ski Resort, with its superb downhill ski and snowshoe trails. You’re less than half a hour from downtown Gatineau, where an overnight stay in one of the Hotel V’s comfortable rooms will have you ready and raring to enjoy another fun-filled day.
A museum a day...
It’s almost impossible to plan a family visit to the Outaouais region without including one of the many museums in Gatineau and Ottawa. In the heart of downtown Gatineau, the Canadian Museum of History is Canada’s most visited museum. It’s home to the Canadian Children’s Museum, where kids are encouraged to run around and touch everything in sight (don’t tell them it’s all educational!). Over in Ottawa, the Canadian War Museum and the National Gallery of Canada offer a host of special activities kids are sure to love. Book a stay at one of the hotels in downtown Gatineau (Four Points by Sheraton, Crowne Plaza, Victoria Suites) and you can park the car and walk to the museums. Alternatively, the DoubleTree by Hilton is just a few minutes away by car.
Of course, you'll have all the details to help plan the perfect March break right here at www.outaouaistourism.com! Have a beautiful week!
