Outaouais’ Must-Sees for the Week of June 9, 2014

Published on June 9 2014

The Outaouais region is a gigantic playground where new activities are added every day. From the downtown core to the heart of nature, indoors and out, you’ll find plenty of things to do as a family, as a couple or with friends. It’s no exaggeration: in the Outaouais region, what we really need is a 10‑day week.

Borrow a bike at Maison du vélo

No bike? No problem! Explore the region’s 180 km of urban bike paths on a free loaner bike from Maison du vélo in Jacques-Cartier Park. Administered by the Grenier du petit sportif service agency, the Maison carries a full range of bikes for all ages and abilities, including specialized bikes for riders with limited mobility. All you need is a piece of photo ID and you’re all set to pedal your way around downtown Gatineau and Ottawa and discover the national capital’s many tourist attractions.

A different kind of two-wheeler

Here’s a fun and unusual activity: take a spin on a Segway PT (Personal Transporter) with Ottawa-Gatineau Segway! Step onto the platform, grab hold of the handlebars, and you’re off to explore Gatineau on two wheels.

Try your hand at the construction trade

The Builders' Fest is a unique opportunity for aspiring builders of all ages to see, touch, and learn about the many aspects of the construction trade. Young people can test their skills in hands-on trade workshops in plumbing, carpentry and bricklaying. There’s also a heavy equipment park where you can safely try out mini-excavators, mini-loaders and backhoes. Fun for the whole family!
