September 26 to October 2: Three family-friendly events!

Published on September 26 2016

Dear Readers, I hope you haven’t made big plans for the weekend, because there’s lots to do in #Outaouaisfun! Staying home is not an option: now is the time for families to have fun playing outdoors or participating in Quebec’s 20th annual Culture Days.

International Festival of Log Buildings (Logfest)

From September 30 to October 2, celebrate the heritage of log buildings in the Outaouais at the International Festival of Log Buildings (Logfest) in Montebello. Activities include the Log Games, a friendly competition among experienced log builders; guided tours (including the Château Montebello, the largest log structure in the world); exhibitions of paintings, sculptures and photos of log buildings; a log building trade show; and workshops and seminars.

20th annual Culture Days

Quebec’s 20th annual Culture Days take place Friday through Sunday all across the province, and the Outaouais is no exception. Some 60 activities, most of them free, will be offered throughout the region. They include sewing, knitting, weaving, singing and music workshops, exhibitions of all kinds, outdoor movies, demonstrations and chocolate tastings at ChocoMotive, guided tours of Old Hull, and Nigerian storytelling and drumming at the Canadian Museum of History. If you prefer a self-guided adventure, the municipality of Papineauville, the City of Gatineau and the RCMs of Pontiac and Vallée-de-la-Gatineau have put together a list of 20 cultural treasures in which they take pride. Play tourists for the weekend and have fun discovering the region as a family!

FREE fall fun

Autumn is officially here, and several free activities have been organized to welcome it. They include the Fête des couleurs celebration of fall colours in Lac-Beauchamp Park, a family picnic on Mount Morissette, a folk picnic and kites in Meech Creek Valley in Gatineau Park, and Nature interpretation at the Champlain and Pink Lake lookouts, also in Gatineau Park. Note to the adults in the group: October 1 is the day of the grape harvest at Domaine Mont-Vézeau vineyard!
