Published on December 29 2022

Its the new year! Now that the holiday madness is behind us and winter is officially here, there’s time to enjoy the snow and all the joys of winter. Dress warmly and check out our ideas for things to do in January.

Visit Gatineau Park

Known as the green lung of the Outaouais, Gatineau Park is the ultimate destination for winter outdoor activities. Its 361km2 of hills and forests where you can celebrate the joys of winter. Dont have your own equipment? Dont let that stop you! The Relais plein air offer cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals so you can spend an invigorating day in the park. A waxing room, free parking and a café serving food and drinks are also available to visitors.

Spend the night in an unique accomodation

Are you keen to get back to nature? Why not treat yourself to an overnight stay in the forest in an unusual accommodation in the Outaouais? Acabin in the middle of a wolf pack, a fully equipped dome or a Mongolian yurt—its all laid on for a successful glamping experience. Among the advantages of sleeping in the wilderness: a restful, refreshing night and a huge playground for practising your favourite winter sports!

Go hiking with your dog

After all that holiday feasting, a hike with your dog will do you a world of good! The Outaouais region has an impressive variety of trails where dogs on leash are welcome, and a little bird tells us that your pooch loves the snow and wide open spaces. The Outaouais is the perfect match for your four-legged friend!

Hit the ski slopes

One ski hill is good, but five are even better! Yes, the Outaouais has five ski resorts where you can hit the slopes this winter. Whether youre a downhill skier or a snowboarder, youll find trails that meet your expectations. Perfect for the whole family, the Outaouais mountains are great for beginners and experts alike.

Go on a snowmobile adventure

Are you one of those who adore snowmobiling in winter? If you answered yes, a snowmobile trip is a must to discover the Outaouais and its hundreds of kilometres of marked trails. A vast territory to explore! Check out our interactive trail map and plan your trip.
