Known as “the green lung of the Outaouais,” Gatineau Park is a prime destination for winter outdoor activities. Take your dog along on a hike to the ruins on the Mackenzie King Estate, or follow a snowshoe trail through the deep powder. The park also has a vast network of cross-country ski trails to enjoy all winter long. A fatbike is another great way to explore the park.

Don’t have your own equipment? Don’t let that stop you! Rent skis and snowshoes at the Relais plein air and spend an enjoyable day in the park. A waxing room, free parking (P2) and a café serving food and drinks are also available.

One mountain is great, but five are even better! Yes, the Outaouais has five ski centres where you can hit the slopes this winter. Whether you’re a downhill skier or a snowboarder, you’ll find the perfect runs for you! Ideal for family skiing, the mountains of the Outaouais will delight novices and experts alike.

Are you one of those for whom winter is all about snowmobiling? If so, a snowmobile trip is a must to discover the Outaouais and its hundreds of kilometres of marked trails. A vast territory to explore! Take a look at our trail map and start planning your ride.

WARM UP INDOORS

Are you all for getting back to nature, but don’t want to give up your creature comforts? Book a stay in one of the Outaouais’ unusual accommodations. A chalet overlooking a wolf enclosure, a fully equipped dome or a rustic yurt—those are just a few of your options for an enjoyable glamping experience. The benefits of sleeping in the great outdoors: a restful night and a vast playground where you can practise your favourite winter sports!

For a day out with family or friends, the Altitude Gym indoor climbing centre is a must. Choose from over 50 first-roping routes and 50 top-roping routes. For another exciting challenge, test your agility on the bouldering structures. Progress at your own pace with courses for all abilities. A top spot for indoor fun!

Stay warm at Salle Odyssée, recently crowned ADISQ venue of the year, and get your fill of culture with its dynamic and diverse programming. In January, the Tout Culture team suggests the Maturisé show by Gatineau humorist Jerr Allain, a family concert with Les Petites Tounes, a screening as part of The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour, and the musical La Corriveau – la soif des corbeaux.

There’s more than one way to keep busy and have fun indoors. For even more places to visit, here are some activities that will appeal to the whole family.

EVENTS TO PUT ON YOUR CALENDAR

Enjoy a 360° multimedia experience at the exhibition Parliament: The Immersive Experience. This sound and light show will transport you to the heart of the main Parliament building, also called the Centre Block. Delve into the stories that have shaped Canada’s history as you visit the rooms where important decisions are made. You’ll be amazed by the sound effects and immersive visuals!

From December 21 to February 19, be enveloped in the angelic sound produced by the metal arches forming the Iceberg installation at the Canadian Museum of History. As you walk through this tunnel of giant illuminated instruments, you’ll feel like you’re watching a thousand-year-old glacier melt away. It’s a unique way to learn about climate change.

According to Chinese astrology, 2024 is the Year of the Rabbit. On February 3, come celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Royal Canadian Mint. It’s customary for adults to give children red envelopes containing a small amount of money as a symbol of good luck. Celebrate this tradition by minting a free token at the gift shop.
