Week of November 3: 3 treatments to try at the spa

Published on November 3 2014

After switching back to Standard Time last weekend, you may find yourself feeling a little fatigued. Take some (standard) time to pamper yourself in one of the Outaouais region’s spas! This week, we’re suggesting three treatments to get your mind and body back on track.

NASA-inspired technology

Take just 30 minutes for an energizing NeuroSpa “power nap” at Studio 157 (two locations, Main Street in Gatineau and the DoubleTree by Hilton Gatineau-Ottawa). This half-hour treatment banishes mental and physical fatigue and leaves you feeling refreshed and alert. Cradled in a zero-gravity chair, lie back and let the relaxing music work its magic!

Experience the Aufguss sauna ritual

Did you know that the staff at Nordik Spa‑Nature includes the only two certified Sauna Meisters in Canada? Four times a day (at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.), in the Finlandia sauna, they invite you to experience the Aufguss ritual (“Aufguss” means “infusion” in German). Water enriched with essential oils is poured onto the sauna stones, releasing a burst of vapour with health-enhancing properties. The Aufguss master uses a large towel to fan the air toward those present. The fragrant enriched air is a subtle pleasure to the senses, enhancing the many benefits already enjoyed in the dry sauna. Watch a video of the ritual here.

Discover chirology (the study of the hand)

The Birla Centre for Hast Jyotish is the place to go if you’re looking for a unique Zen retreat. The centre offers a range of relaxing health treatments and workshops, from massage, yoga and meditation to palmistry, astrology, vegetarian cuisine and more. Maximize the benefits by booking an extended stay in one of the on-site cottages or the lakefront lodge.
