Published on August 17 2023

There are tons of accommodation and activity options to choose from in the Outaouais so you can have fun as a family! To make things easier, we’ve included some of them in this blog. Just choose one educational activity, one leisure activity and one hotel from our list, and voilà! Your next family trip will be easier than ever—and even more fun!

Where to learn

Mixing education with pleasure is always a winning recipe, keeping the young children busy while keeping the older ones interested. Planning inside activities is a plus: we can then plan ahead and keep our Plan A no matter the weather! Choose one of the three options below to start planning your next family trip!

With interactive workshops, immersive spaces and engaging exhibitions, the Canada Science and Technology Museum will capture everyone’s attention. Discover the key role innovation plays in our lives and how science helps us better understand the world around us. Plan your visit before September 4, 2023 to see the Our Climate Quest exhibition. This exhibition helps everyone reflect about the impacts our everyday choices have on the environment and inspires us to become part of the solution.

Are you looking for an unusual educational activity? Visit the Royal Canadian Mint and discover how coins are made. On the daily guided tours, offered in both French and English, you’ll learn more about innovative advancements in gold refining used in the production of modern coins.

Are your children keen explorers? Head to the Canadian Children’s Museum! Through colourful decor and activities that bring you on a journey, your children can learn more about cultures and lifestyles from around the world. Visit the Pakistani bus, the Mexican market and the Indian house to create magnificent family memories.

Where to have fun

Now that the kids have learned a lot during the first activity of the trip, it’s time to choose an activity that gets you moving! Here are two options that both young and old are guaranteed to enjoy.

Virtual reality has been gaining popularity over the last few years. At VR82 Modern Arcade, you can discover over 50 virtual games that you can play solo, group or co-op. Your children and teens ages 10 and up will get an adrenaline rush playing the multiplayer games. Free roam over the 1,200 sq. ft.  of virtual universe with up to 20 players simultaneously! Feel like challenging the family? Try one of the virtual reality escape games or throw an axe at a wooden target.

For an even more physical inside activity, head to Altitude Gym. This unique indoor rock-climbing facility features many options for both children and adults. With a climbing gym, equipment rentals, climbing courses and the Clip’N Climb theme park, you’ll be sure to have an adrenaline-fuelled day!

Where to sleep

After a day filled with learning so many things and expending energy, it’s time to relax as a family at a nearby hotel. So, here are three options for accommodation, all with their own unique traits. The choice is yours!

If you like museums, Four Points by Sheraton Gatineau-Ottawa is definitely the perfect place for the whole family to stay. Located just across from the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian Children’s Museum, and close to two other national museums, you couldn’t be better situated. And the best thing? The hotel offers a special package that includes overnight accommodation, parking, museum admission and $20 off at the hotel’s restaurant.

If your children are big swimmers, the Holiday Inn Express & Suites is the best place to stay during your trip in Gatineau! Indoor heated pool, unlimited Internet, free parking, breakfast included—you’re in for a great visit!

If you’re looking for a central hotel in the middle of the city that’s modern with an excellent on-site restaurant, the Resto Bistro Rumeur, Hôtel V is the place to go.
