This year, don’t wait till the last minute (what, again?) to start your Christmas shopping. This weekend, you can visit several local Christmas markets and drop in at the 13th annual Rendez-vous BD de Gatineau comic-book festival, featuring a very special guest. Here’s your chance to stock up on original Christmas presents created by local writers, illustrators and artisans. Your unique Outaouais gifts will be the hit of the holiday party!

Rendez-vous BD de Gatineau

The honorary chair of the 13th edition of this popular comic-book festival is none other than Montreal-based cartoonist Michel Rabagliati, creator of the Paul series. The event program includes panel discussions, meetings with authors, a friendly improvisational drawing contest, a mini-writing workshop, and a talk by Michel Rabagliati. There’s fun for the whole family, November 27 to 29 at Maison du citoyen in Gatineau.

Santa Claus Parade / Christmas Market in Old Aylmer

The annual Santa Claus Parade through the streets of Aylmer marks the official start of the holiday season. Once again this year, some 25,000 spectators are expected to line the 2‑km parade route as 50 colourful floats go by. After the parade, browse the Christmas Market in Old Aylmer’s Commemorative Park, featuring over a dozen local artisans. The parade gets underway November 27 at 7 p.m. on Principale Street, and the market is open November 27 through 29. Two great ways to start your holiday season off on the right foot!

Christmas Market at the Canadian Museum of History

From November 26 to 29, more than 75 exhibitors await you in the majestic Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of History to showcase their handmade creations. This year, wrap up your holiday shopping in just four days, and delight the folks on your gift list with unique items created by local and regional artisans. Take a break at the new pop-up café to fuel up for another round of shopping!

Once again this year, the Presbytère de Blue Sea (Blue Sea Rectory) is hosting its annual Christmas craft fair, November 28 and 29.
