November 28 to December 4: don’t miss those 3 Christmas markets

Christmas in Old Aylmer

The most important date on the calendar in the next few weeks is definitely Saturday, December 3: that’s when Santa Claus officially arrives in the Outaouais, during the 22nd annual Gatineau Santa Claus Parade. Families are invited to gather on Principale Street in the Aylmer sector at 6 p.m. to watch dozens of colourful floats go by. Keep your eyes peeled for Santa—he’ll be sitting comfortably on the very last one.

In addition to the parade, from December 2 to 4 you can visit the Old Aylmer Christmas Market. This year it’s being held in the courtyard of the British Hotel, a legendary Old Aylmer building that dates back to 1834! Visit all the kiosks to discover a wide range of local products. Enjoy children’s entertainment, a visit from Santa, and wonderful surprises for the whole family.

While you’re there, make a side trip to the Symmes Inn Museum to see the permanent exhibition Symmes Inn: Windows onto the Ottawa River and attend a Christmas storytelling session (Sunday, December 4).

A Christmas market among the totem poles!

From December 1 to 4, more than 90 exhibitors will fill the majestic Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of History. The Christmas Market is a great place to do your holiday shopping in a festive and relaxed atmosphere. Admission is free, so there’s no excuse not to go!

Blue Sea craft fair

December 3 and 4 are the dates of the traditional craft fair at the Blue Sea Rectory, where more than a dozen local artisans will be displaying their work. This is a real highlight of the holiday season in the Gatineau Valley.
