A huge stretch of water situated less than a three-hour drive north of Gatineau-Ottawa and Montréal, the Baskatong Reservoir resulted from the construction of the Mercier Dam in 1927, and serves as a source of feedwater for hydro-electric generating stations located downstream along the Gatineau River. Its beauty and grandeur encompass 2,800 km of shoreline, numerous beaches and some 160 islands. The past few years have seen its reputation grow in terms of quality fine-sand beaches and wide variety of nautical activities.
