In order to carry out major restoration work on its historic buildings, the Manoir Papineau National Historic Site will be closed to the public for the 2020 tourist season. However, a Visitor Centre, located near the parking lot, will remain open to the public during peak season. Visitors can obtain tourist information from the centre and learn more about Parks Canada’s leadership in cultural resource conservation. Open daily, from 10 am to 5 pm, from June 20 to September 7 (closed on July 1st).

A popular attraction for visitors to the region, the Montebello train station was built in 1931 with the same red cedar that was used for the famous Fairmont Le Château Montebello. In 1990 the station was converted to a tourist information centre and souvenir shop; it also houses the ticket office for the Manoir Papineau National Historic Site, and the ChocoMotive chocolate economuseum. Walking trails (5 km total) lead from the site to the Manoir Papineau and the Fairmont Le Château Montebello. Parking lot, picnic area and restrooms are available on site. Closed on December 24, 25 & 31 and January 1.

While you're in the area, take advantage of the opportunity to visit the studios of internationally renowned local artists Jean-Yves Guindon, Denise Harvey-Desroches, Alain Lévesque, Vincent Sénécal and Jean-Marc Gladu, then make a stop at the Fromagerie Montebello.

Surrounded by maple trees shading the statue of the guardian angel dominating the Petite-Nation, the museum houses hundreds of artifacts that capture the traditions of 19th-century pioneers. Linking the wooded trail and the mill lookout, a superb footbridge crosses the river and leads to the Saint-André-Avellin heritage route. Ingenious agricultural tools and equipment are displayed in a utility shed, while an old-fashioned gazebo welcomes speakers and choirs during holidays and other festivities.

After a dinner at La Toquade bistro with its relaxed urban vibe, return to Montebello, with a stop at the sundial on the 75th meridian in Papineauville. Then it's off to the Fairmont Le Château Montebello for a dream night!
