Start your getaway at the Canadian Children's Museum, within the Canadian History Museum. This magical, touch-anything-you-like experience will surely be a big hit with your little explorers. Afterwards, jump in the car and head west. You will end up in Vieux-Aylmer, a most charming part of the city. Eat a bite and snoop around the lovelyn boutiques in this heritage sector. Then, off to the countryside! In about 5 minutes, you'll be breathing fresh country air at Potager Eardley. Whether they're picking strawberries in June or pumpkins in October, the kids will be delighted to choose their own bounty. If they're still fidgety at the end of day, go back to Aylmer and let them loose in Parc des Cèdres. There, a nice sandy beach awaits you, alomng with play structures and the best sunset in the Outaouais.

In this case, the longest way is also the nicest. Cross the Portage Bridge and take Sir-John-A.-MacDonald Drive. Before crossing back on the Québec side by the Champlain Bridge, look down at the Remic Rapids and see the stone sculptures from artist John Ceprano. On Principale Street in Aylmer, Bistro Mexicana has a nice kids menu.
