The best of the ’80s at the Casino!
Thursday to Saturday until August 25, the Casino du Lac-Leamy revisits the classics of the ‘80s with the ”It’s retro” theme!
The ‘80s were definitely an intense decade. EVERYTHING was intense: the fluorescent colours, the layered clothing, the big hair, and the funky effects in music videos. Some lucky people remember those days with great nostalgia, while others still have nightmares about their ‘80s look. But everyone fondly recalls the release of the movies Top Gun and Dirty Dancing.
Not having experienced those colourful years myself, I’m super excited at the prospect of diving into the period when Madonna ruled. Sorry, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, but there was someone who understood long before you that shocking people was a good tactic!
Back to the '80s!
As I cross the threshold of the Casino du Lac-Leamy, I recognize a classic from my father’s special “‘80s Nostalgia” playlist: “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Heyyyy there, Rick Astley! Next, I notice THE universal symbol of the ‘80s: the DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future. As if that weren’t enough, Marty McFly, skateboard under his arm, and Dr. Emmett Brown, dressed in his white lab coat, hair askew, make their entrance. I may not have been around in the ‘80s, but I do know my movie classics! I take advantage of the fact that they’re still in 1985 to take a picture with them. A return to 1955 can happen so fast!
A trip in time is preparing!
Now, destination Bar 7, with its ‘80s atmosphere—in other words, electrifying! While the dancers groove to “Girls Just Want To Have Fun,” I admire the many psychedelic effects of the videoclips playing on the giant screen. Clearly, nothing was too wild for the 80s! Every Thursday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., you can rediscover (or as in my case, discover) the best music videos of the time, and see that moderation was definitely not a trend in 1980! At the bar, I’m offered a Fuzzy Navel, a cocktail that perfectly captures the ‘80s, with its vibrant hue and intense citrus flavours. Extravagance tastes great!
Fuzzy Navel: a retro delight!
Fun times, ‘80s style!
The nods to a bygone era don’t stop there. I spot another emblem of those mythical years: arcade games! And iconic ones at that: Pac-Man and Space Invaders! Impossible not to stop for a quick game. I congratulate myself for having watched the series Stranger Things twice, because that gang of teenagers living in the ‘80s taught me everything there is to know about arcades!
A little game of Space Invaders ?
As I’m preparing to leave, with a promise to myself to download the albums that made Madonna famous, I see in the distance, in The Zone, two members of the Ghostbusters team enthusiastically hosting the interactive games. Who would have thought that the legendary paranormal specialists knew so much about blackjack? That’s it—now the famous melody is stuck in my head: “Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!”
From Thursday to Saturday, it’s Retro80 at the Casino du Lac-Leamy, with a souvenir photobooth, retro arcade games, music videos, and the Cassette 80 music lineup!
